This past weekend was our Louisiana Chapter second deer hunt of the season. With 8 young men and mentors, we hit the woods for a great time in God’s Creation. Friday evening we got things started with some dinner and some man time around the fire. The man time around the fire is always a good time to have some conversation about what God has been doing in our lives since our last programs. It was some great conversation among mentors and boys. After man time and some pre deer hunting talk we got settled in and hit the bed for the night. Saturday morning came early as everyone was up and ready to get in the stand before daylight. All of our mentors and young men pairings headed for their stand and were settled in before first light. It took a little bit for the deer movement to start, but things heated up just before 7am when Kameron Townsend connected with a big mature doe for the first deer of the day. Word quickly spread through the group via text message and everyone wondered who would be next, but that doe and the four with her were the only deer seen on the morning hunt. It was a great morning for hunting and for sharing and creating bonds in the deer stand. After the morning hunt and taking care of the deer and photo ops we shared lunch prepared by Mandy Rivers and one of our mentors Scot Martin shared a devotional about God’s voice and how we hear it that really challenged us all. We got settled back in the woods for the afternoon hunt with our game faces on. It wasn’t long when word spread that Blake Roy had downed a doe for the second deer of the day. Everyone was excited and wondering who would be next. Well we soon found out
when the message went out that Victor Pounds had had dropped a four point buck just before dark. This was Victor’s very first deer, so there was much celebration when we all returned to the camp. Congratulations to all three boys and to those that didn’t harvest a deer this time, “we’ll get ’em next time”.
Another great program as we continued to build relationships, share in God’s Word, and spend time enjoy His creation. We pray that God will use these times to grow us and draw us closer to Him.
