Over the past weekend our Georgia Chapter ran its first ever program on the new property and facility that was provided in partnership with Southeastern Trust for Land and Parks (STPAL). It was our very first Geo Cache program and it went great! We started by meeting all the boys and mentors at the property Friday night. Once everyone had arrived and settled in we enjoyed a great roast and trimming dinner prepared and served by Leslie Brooks and Debbie Croft. Shortly after dinner we were joined by Dan Pervorse of CAYA Reconciliation Ministries to lead our devotional time. It was a challenging and interactive devotional time as we all were encouraged on how to keep Jesus as our guide and light of our path. After the devotional we had some free time before hitting the
bed in our new bunk houses.
Saturday morning we kicked the day off early with a great breakfast casserole and sides prepared and served again by Leslie Brooks and Debbie Croft. We got some final instructions and the boys were paired up and then put with a mentor to spend the day in the woods going through the Geo Cache stations. The boys learned to read topo maps and use compasses to find dedicated stations. Once at the stations they used the clues to find and locate the next stations while following their topo maps and compasses. By the end of the day we had a winning team of
Daniel Knight and Manny Maldonado with mentor Roy Rogers. The boys received some awesome backpacks and gear for being the winners of this challenge. We finished up with some fellowship before departing for the day.
Overall it was a great program to get kicked off our new land and camp facility in Dallas, GA. We continue to pray and ask God to use our mentors during these times to reach and engage further in the lives of these young men from single parent homes.
