This past weekend our Truth in Nature Chapters in both Louisiana and Georgia held their April Spring Programs. They both had a great overnight program at each camp facility with some fishing, games, free time, and most importantly praying together, growing in God’s Word, and Sharing with each other.
In Louisiana, led by Program Director Michael Rivers, they were back after a trying past month. Their camp facility was effected by the historic floods and needed much repair to get back into working order. They were right on point with it for this program as they welcomed two new young men, Trey Jenkins and Hayden Thomas, to join in. They kicked things off Friday with a great dinner and some free time where they played a giant game of Connect 4. They had some man time around the camp fire before hitting the bed for the evening. On Saturday they got started with a filling breakfast and then hit the lake for some fishing. All the boys caught some fish as the white perch were really biting well. It was a great morning fishing and building bonds with the young men and mentors present. After fishing, we settled in for some great BBQ prepared by Winston Taylor. We then concluded with a devotional on why a relationship with God matters, lead by Hebron Youth Pastor, Christopher Blanton. Thanks to all the mentors and Mandy Rivers for preparing the meals for the boys.
In Georgia, it was their overnight Spring Fishing Program, led by Program Directors Tim Croft and Don Brooks. They kicked things off Friday evening at their camp facility in Dallas, GA. After a great dinner and some whiffle ball time, Jeff Davis led a devotional on character and integrity. After the devotional one of our young men Manny, came forward and spoke more with Jeff about his relationship with God. After talking for a while Manny prayed and asked Christ into his life! This was a true celebration! We wound down the night with some man hunt before hitting the bed. Saturday morning we got a good pancake and sausage breakfast and hit the pond. The fishing was good as the boys caught trout, bream, shell cracker, and some bass. After we finished up the fishing the biggest celebration of the day was getting to watch two profess their faith and trust in Jesus Christ and go forward with baptism. Austyn, had accepted Christ at Church the year before and Manny the night before at Truth in Nature Camp. Both these young men had family on hand along with their Truth in Nature mentors an peers to share in the occasion. We will continue to pray for these boys as they begin their walk with Christ.
This is why we do what we do! We capped off the day with a great cookout before closing the program down. Thanks to all the mentors and Leslie Brooks, Debbie Croft, and Carrie Davis for preparing the meals for the boys!
This was a great weekend at both locations in God’s Creation. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to share and spend time with these young men from single parent homes that need a strong male role model in their life. Please continue to pray for this ministry and each young man we work with.
