In June our Louisiana Chapter took 17 young men and joined in with Hebron Baptist Church youth group to attend a service style summer camp. It was a great week of building relationships with each other and with the Lord. We spent the week at many different locations serving others in Jesus’ name. We started out the week at the Mustard Seed, a christian community for adults with developmental disabilities. We made bird feeders with them, worked in the flower beds pulling weeds, and just spent time building relationships and loving on the residents. On day two we visited The Home Place, an assisted living facility for senior adult ladies. We did yard maintenance, some social activities, and of course bingo. On day three we visited operation upward, a community ministry in south Jackson, Mississippi where low income youth have a place to get involved with summer activities and the volunteers have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with these youth. We had activities such as face painting, water games, bible stories, and facility maintenance. On day three we visited Operation Shoestring, a community center focused on children from low income areas that allow parents who can’t afford childcare to bring their children for many activities and not have to worry about them while they work during the day. We told bible stories, had rec time, and made crafts. The whole week was a true blessing and the boys did a great job of serving others selflessly in Jesus’ name.
It is great to see the growth in boys when we have the opportunity to serve others alongside them. This camp was a great example of that. These young men were more eexcited each day as the week went on to head out and serve. We had one of our young men give his life to Christ and was saved during this camp and for that we praise the Lord! Thank you all who continue to support this ministry effort for single parent boys and make opportunities like this possible. Please continue to keep these young men and mentors in your prayers.
