This past weekend our Georgia Chapter enjoyed a great weekend at our annual Cast and Blast Program. The weather was great, fellowship was awesome, but most importantly we all were encouraged and strengthened as we got closer to God and His Word. Friday night, we kicked it off with great food and a campfire as we welcomed five new boys to our program. Leslie Brooks has prepared a great BBQ dinner for all of us with all the fixings. Carrie Davis and Debbie Croft were hand to help serve the boys and mentors as well. Shortly after dinner, Mentor Alix Robinson broke down the story of the Prodigal Son for us in a unique way, while sharing part of his own incredible life story, the difference God has made, and the great love the Father has for each and every one of us. God definitely used him to speak to our hearts. God was truly using Alix to move in the hearts of some of these boys. It was apparent becasue after dessert, an intense game of Man Hunt ensued followed by some deep discussions among boys and mentors, sharing struggles and life in the bunk house before bed. Before bed a prayer was led by mentor Alix and one of first time participants Corey, ask Christ into his life and was saved. Praise the Lord! This is again why we do what we do and we plan to continue to encourage Corey as he attends our programs and His walk with the Lord.
Saturday morning breakfast came early, after which we headed out to Buchanan to enjoy a day of fishing, hunter and gun safety training, clay shooting and rifle range as the boys worked to qualify for one of our upcoming deer hunts. Thank you to the Forlaw Family for graciously hosting us on your beautiful property! It was a great time as we saw some first fish caught, character built on the rifle range, and the accomplishments there, as well as being challenged on the clays. Cowboy Tom wrapped it up for us with an outstanding Dutch Oven Lunch of Beans, Rice and Sausage before heading back to camp to meet the guardians for pick up.
It is amazing to watch God at work in the hearts of our boys and mentors. The relationships He continues to build have an eternal impact that we may never realize this side of Heaven. A special thank you to our mentors, who selflessly give of their time and talents to invest in the lives of these boys and all of our sponsors, supporters, who give money and resources to make these programs possible and free of charge for a single mother to send her son through.
