This past weekend our South Carolina Chapter held its September Hiking Program. It was a beautiful day in God’s Outdoors to hit the trails with our boys and mentors. On Saturday morning everyone met at our ministry partner, Awaken Church, to load up and head out. Once all boys and mentors were present, we headed out for Congaree National Park to hike. We arrived at the park and got all of the packs loaded up with the supplies we would need for the hike. Everybody got bug sprayed and we were off. We hiked on the boardwalk loop and then some more on a more rustic trail. We saw a lot of wildlife, and even a big area where the wild hogs had rooted down the trail. We stopped and paused for photo ops and to check out the facts along the way, using our map and information booklet. Around midday we stopped for our lunch break. We had some sandwiches trail side and then mentor Jeff Davis led a devotional on character and integrity of a Christian man. We had some discussion time around this and then we cleaned up lunch and hit the trail again. On the way back to the visitors center we hiked and laughed, cut up, and learned more about each other building on our relationships. We got cleaned up at the visitors center and then left as the heat of the day was setting in.
This was a great program with the boys and mentors as we just spent time disconnected in God’s Creation. The weather was beautiful that morning with the sun shining through the tree tops as we hiked. We continue to pray and ask God to continue to have his hand over these programs in our Northeast Columbia Chapter. Please keep the boys and mentors in your prayers and that God will continue to use His Ministry to reach and grow them in their walk.
