This past weekend our Georgia Chapter held it’s November Deer Hunt. It was a great weekend with a good group of boys and mentors. As with our October Hunt this group is scaled down to a smaller group for the hunts. These hunts always allow for some great bonding time between mentors and boys in God’s Creation. Friday night we enjoyed a roast beef dinner, prepared and served by Leslie Brooks, with all the trimmings. We all got full and then settled in to review hunting and firearm safety. It was a laid back evening of talking and sharing. All of the boys needed some camo so we passed that out among the boys and everyone got fitted with shirts, pants, gloves, toboggans, and even some got boots. Shortly after we all settled in for some sleep before the early morning into the deer woods. Saturday morning came early as we headed to Walker Creek Outdoors to set up in our stands before sunrise. The morning hunt saw some action with 4 of our groups seeing deer. However the deer did not cooperate as none presented us with a good shot for the young men. Once everyone was ready we came out of the woods to a dutch oven lunch of chili and cornbread provided by Cowboy Tom Veale who has become a staple in our programs for some good old cowboy cooking. After lunch Pastor Lee Brown shared his heart with our boys about the God who knows us better than anyone. Lee really challenged us to be better in who we are in Christ. After some napping, playing with game calls, and just goofing around we were hopeful as we headed back to the woods for the afternoon. The afternoon temperatures had gotten up and the deer did not move at all. That evening raccoons, squirrels, turkeys, and coyotes howling were heard and seen.
Although we did not bring home any game this weekend, we had a great time building stronger relationships and sharing life together. A big thank you to Shannon Morgan and crew for use of their beautiful property and to all our mentors who gave of their time. We thank God for the opportunity to be a part of the lives of these amazing young men. Our continued prayer above all is to see these young men discover who they are in Christ and further their walk both personally and spiritually.
