This past weekend our Louisiana Chapter was able to take a young man on a bonus trip that he had earned the previous year. Dominique was that young man, and it just so happens, he is graduating from high school, and ultimately our programs this year. We started the trip off Friday evening as Program Director Michael Rivers had them headed to the hog blind by 4:30 that afternoon. They got settled in and waited for the hogs to show up. Dominique was very determined on this hog hunt and stayed very focused. While waiting he enjoyed some deer jerky from his harvest back in the fall, when he took his very first deer ever. Right before dark the hogs showed up. Dominique took aim under Michael’s direction and was able to harvest a nice 180 pound hog! It was all high fives and smiles in the blind. They took care of the hog and got cleaned up and ready to hit the bed. The next morning Dominique decided to sleep in before heading to the next adventure for Dominique. It was a day of mud bogging at the Old River Ranch Off Road Park. Scott and Kema Meiners really rolled out the red carpet for Dominique and took him off roading in the biggest truck Dominique has ever rode in, and took a tour of all the trail riding Old River Ranch has to offer IN A 4×4 UTV. It was a blast and Dominique was really excited for the opportunity. After mud bogging we got cleaned up, and grabbed some food. Then we headed off to Winter Jam for some worship. It was in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center and there was a great line up of Christian Artists. It was a great way to end a great weekend, with an awesome young man.
This is more than just a young man, his first hog, and having a fun filled weekend. He has been in our programs for fatherless and single parent boys for 3+ years. We have seen him grow as a man. God has worked in Dominique’s life and during his time with us he has accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and Program Director Michael Rivers had the honor of baptizing him last year. He graduates high school and our programs in May with a 4.0 GPA. During this trip Michael and Dominique got to talk about his future plans after high school and on into college studying Mechanical Engineering. You make us proud Dominique, we love you, and the man God has called you to be.
This is a great example of how God continues to walk alongside young men in our programs using the mentors and opportunities in His Creation. We continue to see these boys growing in their walk with Him and understanding who He created them to be. Please continue to keep these boys, mentors, and programs in your prayers.
