This past weekend our Georgia Chapter had a great program with our young men and mentors. As usual everything kicked off on Friday evening. With rain in the forecast we moved our Friday evening time to Church of the Vine. A huge thank you to Pastor Dan Pervorse for use of the facility. We started the program with a Baptism Celebration and Dinner Friday night. Friends and Family gathered as Founder Jeff Davis and Program Director Don Brooks had the privilege of baptizing mentor, Kevin Garner and one of our boys, Corey Poole, who both wanted to make a public declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Afterward, we had a delicious dinner prepared by Leslie Brooks and Carrie Davis with desserts by Natalie Higgins were enjoyed by all. Tony Morgan brought our devotion as he shared with our boys and then we loaded up to head to camp for the night. Upon arriving at camp, a difficult discussion ensued as our group began to share and continue to deal with the loss of one of our own. Losing Aaron will forever change us, but knowing him has changed us even more. We know as Christ Followers, we will see him again. We know that God promises to bring good from all things, even when it doesn’t seem possible. We will keep asking God to reveal His goodness, even when life doesn’t make sense.
Saturday morning everyone woke up early to a hot breakfast prepared and served by Leslie Brooks. We loaded up and headed to Brian Stover’s for some fishing and lunch provided by Brian and his crew: Shorty, Tim and Corn Bread. It was a great day on the pond as each mentor was teamed up with a boy or two. Most all the boys caught fish such as trout, bass, and bream. We cleaned the fish in preparation for a late summer fish fry later in the year. We recognized Jukai, as he will graduate our program this summer and wished him well. It was a beautiful day spent in God’s great outdoors, with some ending the day by jumping into the lake to cool off. We thank all of our community partners, such as Brian Stover and BLD Rolloff, Pastor Dan Pervorse and Church of the Vine, and all of our mentors who give up their time each and every month to come and walk alongside these young men from fatherless and single parent homes. Please continue to lift up our programs and these boys that God will use our programs and other avenues to draw them closer to Him. You can check out all the pictures below.
