This past weekend our Dallas, Georgia Chapter enjoyed perfect weather as Program Director Don Brooks led our Annual Cast and Blast. This is always a great time between mentors and boys as we get geared up and excited for the fall deer hunts. Friday night began with a feast, as we welcomed new mentor, Paul Jasczynski and two new boys, Malachi and Austin. We also had South Carolina Program Director Rick Hall, his wife Kim, and daughter Kayla visiting with us this weekend. Don led our evening devotion on bullying, how words have consequences, and what the Bible has to say regarding how we treat others before breaking into small groups for discussion and sharing. Gun and Hunter Safety Trivia followed with just enough time for a round of Man Hunt before hitting the bunks.
We were all up early to grab a great breakfast prepared by Leslie Brooks and served by her team including Carrie Davis and Kim Hall. After breakfast Saturday morning, new mentor Darrell Shelnunt led us in Gun Safety Training before we headed just down the road for the Cast and Blast. The boys and mentors worked their way in groups between the Fishing Pond, Sporting Clays, and Rifle Range, where they shot to qualify to participate in one of our upcoming deer hunts. Each young man had a great time and proved themselves on each station. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to enjoy God’s Creation as the backdrop to spending time between mentors and boys discussing life, their purpose, and goofing a little too. We broke a great lunch prepared by Carrie Davis, and then on to the shooter challenge to wrap up the day.
Boys were recognized and awarded for:
Biggest Fish: Daniel Jackson
Best Score Rifle Range: Kaiden Richardson
Best Score Sporting Clays: Daniel Jackson
Overall Group Leaders chosen to compete in a surprise Sharp Shooter Challenge:
Jackson Harpine, Daniel Knight, Daniel Jackson and Daniel Novak.
Daniel Novak blew us all away with a beautiful shot to the edge of the bulls-eye, winning a hunting trip all his own courtesy of Brian Stover and his team.
A special thank you to Brian Stover for the use of his beautiful property and to his team, Shorty, Corn Bread, and boys for all they did to make this program run smoothly. We value each and every one of our ministry partners and we could not make these programs possible without them. This group of guys have a heart for these boys and the future community in Dallas, GA. This weekend goes in the books as the best Georgia Cast and Blast to date. God is moving in the hearts of our boys and mentors, building relationships and bonds that have eternal impact. We give Him all the glory for what He has done and continues to do. Please continue to lift up in prayer all of our boys and mentors at each chapter and for the vision and direction for future chapters.
