This past weekend our South Carolina Chapter held its Cast and Blast Program. This is where mentors and boys come together to do a little shooting and fishing, while also qualifying the boys for the annual deer hunt. It is always a good program where the boys learn gun safety, hunting techniques, and spend time with the mentors in God’s Creation. We started the program Saturday morning where we caught up on what had gone on with everyone since last program, and talked about deer hunting. Program Director Rick Hall led the program and talked about gun and hunter safety before hitting the rifle range. Once on the rifle range mentor William Lassiter showed how to line up the shot and target along with proper technique while shooting. Daniel really proved to be an ace in shooting the rifle and made some great shots as he prepared for the deer hunt in a few weeks. While we were finishing up on the range one of the mentors hooked in to a big pond grass carp. The rod was quickly passed off and Daniel reeled in a huge grass carp. It was a great battle and we took a quick pic before turning the fish loose back into the pond. Before lunch mentors William and Matt challenged Daniel to some skeet shooting which proved to be a draw on who was really the best. For Lunch everyone enjoyed some awesome deer burgers prepared by Program Director Rick Hall. They were delicious! After eating and getting cleaned up, Rick led a devotional where he shared his heart and story along with some of the things God has brought him through during his journey and walk thus far. This is always the most important time of each program, sharing in God’s Word and how it is applied to our lives today. We rounded out the program with a little long distance shooting, where once again we were impressed with the abilities.
This was another great program as we continue to work with young men from single parent and fatherless homes in the greater Columbia area. We ask that you continue to pray for these programs, mentors, and boys. If you would like to consider being a partner, donor, sponsor, or mentor or maybe know of a single parent or fatherless young man who could benefit from these programs please contact Rick Hall by visiting our South Carolina Chapter Page.
